“For me, the Ambassador role has had a very real impact in terms of networking” – Hamdullah Khadim Sheikh reflects on his EACR membership

“For me, the Ambassador role has had a very real impact in terms of networking” – Hamdullah Khadim Sheikh reflects on his EACR membership
Hamdullah Khadim Sheikh, a researcher affiliated with BioLab, Instituto Universitario de Bio-Orgánica Antonio González (IUBOAG), Universidad de La Laguna, Spain, joined the EACR as a member in 2024 on the suggestion of his research supervisor. He soon decided to become an EACR Ambassador, a member who volunteers to help the EACR in a variety of ways and promotes membership within their own networks.

Since taking on the role, Hamdullah has focused on building connections with researchers across the EACR community. He says the experience has helped him grow in confidence and expand his professional network.

“Being an EACR Ambassador has allowed me to expand my network. Being an Ambassador helped me build confidence in approaching more senior researchers and discussing my work with them or arranging seminars or lectures on my work at different institutions. So for me, the Ambassador role has had a very real impact in terms of networking.”

Those connections have also supported new research collaborations. Through relationships developed within the EACR community, Sheikh has worked with fellow members on a number of publications and an upcoming book project, as well as exploring joint grant applications.

Alongside his research activities, Sheikh has encouraged other scientists in his network to join the Association. Having joined the EACR himself on the recommendation of a supervisor, he has since introduced the organisation to colleagues he felt could benefit from membership.

Although much of his engagement with other members currently takes place online, particularly through LinkedIn, Sheikh hopes to become even more involved through in-person events in the future.

Looking ahead, he sees the EACR as an important source of connections and opportunities. As he puts it: “The EACR has been an amazing platform for networking, collaboration, and scientific growth.”
