Winner announced for the EACR & Nanostring European Cancer Transcriptome Atlas Grant

We’re pleased to announce that Dr. Vasilis Stavrinides from UCL, UK is the winner of the EACR & NanoString European Cancer Transcriptome Atlas Grant, in collaboration with Illumina.

European Cancer Transcriptome Atlas Grant

The grant awards the most impactful proposal in cancer immunotherapy research with a free CTA project with the ability to discover spatial biomarkers using the latest Digital Spatial Profiling chemistry, provided by NanoString and Illumina.

The grant was open to EACR members and we were delighted to receive many high quality applications. Dr. Vasilis Stavrinides’ winning project will be on “The transcriptomic evolution of radiologically progressing prostate cancer”.

Vasilis is a medical doctor who completed his junior surgical training in Oxford and London. He holds two postgraduate degrees in molecular medicine and mathematical statistics from Imperial College and the University of London, and is currently completing a PhD on prostate cancer at UCL under Prof. Mark Emberton, Prof. Caroline Moore and Dr. Hayley Whitaker. In 2018, he was awarded a Clinical Research Training Fellowship by the UK Medical Research Council for his research, which aims to explore the association between the prostate tumour microenvironment, inflammation and MRI phenotypes commonly seen in the prostate.

About his winning spatial biology project, Vasilis said “Multiparametric MRI is a new modality used for prostate cancer diagnosis and management, so understanding the underlying biology of MRI lesions is of increasing significance. The EACR/NanoString award presents a unique opportunity to study the biological evolution of such lesions.”
