The European Association for Cancer Research joins with the European Academy of Cancer Sciences in noting with dismay the recent negative publicity about the European Research Council in the light of the resignation of its President, Mauro Ferrari. Many EACR members have received support for their research from the ERC and, in our view, no other granting organisation serves scientific endeavours in Europe more effectively. We offer our full support to the ERC and we believe it should be cherished and further expanded to the benefit of science and society.
