What can cancer survivors teach us about cancer treatment?

May 22, 2018

EACR member Vicky Forster is a cancer researcher. She’s also a cancer survivor, having survived childhood leukemia.

Vicky recorded a TED Talk on the importance of the huge, and growing, community of cancer survivors, and how they could inform research on cancer treatment and side-effects. Vicky argues that as the global community of cancer survivors increases, more research and more funding is needed that involves this community.

“We as researchers, doctors and scientists need to listen to these conversations and realise that survivors are not just data points on a graph. They’re not just medical samples and medical records. These are people we can have conversations with, to help them.”
