“One of the best professional experiences of my life”: feedback from EACR-funded EMBO workshops
Earlier this year, we funded 34 places for EACR members at two EACR-funded online training workshops on the topics of ‘Communicating Research’ and ‘Laboratory Leadership’.

The workshops were facilitated by EMBO, a trusted leader in scientific publishing, communication and leadership training, and we were delighted to recently receive such positive feedback from the researchers who were selected to attend.

Communicating Research, 17 June 2024

This workshop gave 18 EACR student or early career members invaluable insights into the fundamentals of scientific publication and effective research communication, exploring essential topics such as manuscript structuring, figure assembly, and crafting impactful abstracts, guided by experts in the field. Attendees were able to gain a deeper understanding of the editorial process and peer review evaluations.

What did the attendees have to say?

“Something I really liked was the balance of theory and practice sessions in small groups where we worked on our topics and received feedback from our peers and instructor.”

“I enjoyed and found really useful the exercises on defining our core message and preparing an elevator pitch. It was great to have feedback from the instructors and other participants.”

“I liked how we covered important points from the writing to the presentation of our research, and that we could apply it directly to our project/manuscript.”

“The workshop was very concrete and practical, with directly applicable information that will be useful to me.”

Laboratory Leadership, 17-19 June 2024

This intensive workshop, aiming to nurture the next generation of laboratory leaders in cancer research, enabled 16 EACR members to explore the crucial aspects of effective leadership, from understanding the roles and dynamics within their teams to honing communication and conflict resolution skills.

What did the attendees have to say?

“The course far exceeded my expectations, and it was one of the best professional experiences of my life.”

“The workshop provided a fantastic forum to share ideas, allowing for diverse perspectives and constructive discussions. This collaborative environment not only enriched the learning experience but also fostered a sense of community among the participants.”

“It was a very inspiring experience that gave me a lot of ideas to be implemented in my group. I particularly loved interacting with other people with different experiences but with knowledge about the issues related to laboratory leadership.”

“The virtual atmosphere was very comfortable and made me feel secure. The interactive sessions were really helpful and insightful. All the tools are super useful, and I am really looking forward to using them in my own lab.”

“The trainers were able to get everyone involved and create a space where everyone felt they could share their personal experiences, which strengthened the bond among the participants.”

Look out for further EACR-funded workshops
