At the Early Career Researchers’ Conference 2024, we enjoyed a brilliant programme of diverse sessions from a range of experts, including Manuel Valiente from CNIO, Spain who delivered a talk on making your research translatable by giving the example of RENACER. RENACER is a national network focused on obtaining fresh samples from brain metastasis patients, enabling innovative research strategies.

In his talk, Manuel discusses the challenges faced by basic scientists in translating their findings to clinical applications. He posits that we need to prioritise building strong relationships with clinicians, and that creating a data portal to share information with the scientific community enhances collaboration and research outcomes. Sustained funding for collaborative research networks like tissue banks is therefore crucial for long-term impact.
