VIDEO: #KeepResearchCurious Expert Panel Discussion on Why Basic Research Matters

October 16, 2025

As part of the EACR’s #KeepResearchCurious campaign we recently hosted a panel with four expert guests to discuss the importance of curiosity-driven research in advancing medical breakthroughs.

In this video, Dr Helen Rippon (Worldwide Cancer Research, UK), Prof Alberto Bardelli (IFOM, Italy), Dr Sophie Postel-Vinay (Gustave Roussy, France), and Dr Matheus Dias (NKI, Netherlands) discuss their favourite examples of how basic research has impacted cancer science, how they make space for curiosity in their own organisations, and the future of funding for basic research. This panel was recorded on 25 March 2025 and hosted by the EACR’s Scientific Officer, Dr Alexandra Boitor.
