Erik Sahai, Principal Group Leader and Deputy Research Director at the Francis Crick Institute, travelled to Nanchang, China, this month to deliver an EACR keynote talk titled “The Cell Biology of Tumour-Stroma Boundaries” at the the Chinese Society for Cell Biology’s 7th National Annual Conference on Tumour Cell Biology.

Reflecting on the trip shortly after returning, Erik noted the high scientific standard at the meeting, and that he was fortunate to have his travel rebooked at short notice when a typhoon threatened to hit Shanghai!
Alongside his keynote, Erik took part in a journal session at the conference (“Authors Ask, Editors Answer”), representing the Journal of Cell Biology and the Journal of Cell Science.
Erik’s Tumour Cell Biology Laboratory at the Crick studies how cancer spreads through the body and becomes resistant to treatment – processes strongly shaped by the interplay between tumour cells and the surrounding non-cancerous cells. The group combines patient data with experimental models, live imaging of tumours in real time, and computational modelling of the molecular dialogue between between different cells within a tumour, aiming to uncover new ways to predict metastasis and identify potential treatment targets.
Many thanks to Erik for representing the EACR beyond Europe. ✈️
